Bio

I am a National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine National Research Council Associate, currently working at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration in Santa Cruz, CA. I am primarily interested in the rules that govern ecosystem assembly and collapse, and how the organization of biological networks encode these phenomena. My research blends math modeling; data analysis; and experiments in communities of microbes, small invertebrates, and fish. I am best known for my work on the dynamics of ecological interaction networks, and in applications of ecological theories for microbiomes.
